Dubai Police partnered up with a Singaporean Startup called OSTAW Digital that will deploy driverless mini security patrol cars by the end of 2017.
The O-R3 robot, with its built-in camera that provides a 360-degree scope, will mostly be used for surveillance in commercial places. It is self-charging, has biometric detection that helps it locate individuals, and can even launch a drone from the back.
The agreement was made as part of Dubai Police Force’s plan to have 25% of their police force as robots by 2030. Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Dubai Police Force’s Commander-in-Chief said: “We seek to augment operations with the help of technology such as robots. Essentially, we aim for streets to be safe and peaceful even without heavy police patrol.”
