Dubai Startup Promotes Healthy Eating

The healthy eating trend has quickly spread to the UAE. One young start-up called Plotos took the wave and launched last year in Dubai. Initially, it started as a mobile restaurant delivery platform. Only four months later, it has introduced its brand new grocery delivery service.

In an interview with The National, Plotos co-founders Nadine Tayara, Maria Abi Hanna and Mohammed Johmani talked about their business idea. Plotos is the Latin word for “wealth,” explained Nadine, a nutrition consultant, and a clinical dietitian. When they started, they wanted to incorporate the word “wealthy” into the name of the business. They believed that health was our greatest wealth, added Nadine. Sooner after that, they came up with the Latin word “plotos.”

The grocery app offers a wide range of products – bakery items, cereals, grains, fresh vegetables, organic beef and chicken, beverages, as well as some gluten-free foods. All the items are carefully pre-selected personally by the founders:

“We are here to disrupt the food delivery industry and connect our customers to healthy eats in an easy, innovative and user-friendly way, with the aim to fight obesity, diabetes and other nutrition-related diseases.”

Plotos prefers to look with local suppliers such as Hapi, The Clean Living Company and Skinny Delights by Right Bite. Each of them has a minimum delivery charge, starting from Dh50. The delivery takes up to 48 hours, depending on the items.

The app interface is colourful and user-friendly. It also has a GPS feature to determine which stockists can deliver to a user’s location.

Despite its marketing campaign across the UAE, Plotos can only deliver within Dubai. The founders have been currently working towards business expansion to Abu Dhabi.
