Dubai offers free coding education to all Arab kids

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Matkoum Global Initiatives foundation (MBRGI) has announced it would sponsor the free computer coding trading of one million young Arabs starting January 2018. The initiative launched by the HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, would not be limited to the GCC region only. All the Arab school children around the world could take part in it.

The primary goal of the Ruler of Dubai is to equip the next generation of leaders with the necessary skills to succeed in the future. So far, MBRGI has started over 1,400 similar projects and set up over 33 educational institutions to create more opportunities for the Arab youth.

Thanks to the lessons in coding and programming, the kids would expand their career options and would be an integral part of the digital economy. The most motivated teachers and the higher achievers among the students would receive rewards in a series of incentives worth over US$ 1 million. As HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum noted:

”We will not stop launching projects and initiatives to support our Arab communities because the stability of our region relies on it.”

A recent report by the Youth Policy Organisation recently concluded that half of the Arab population is under 25 years of age. Furthermore, 39 percent of them plan to start own business within the next five years. At the same time, the unemployment rate among the Arab young people remains one of the highest in the world reaching 30 percent.

All the governments in the GCC region have been working hard to introduce smart and e-commerce frameworks in line with their long-term visions for non-oil economies. The efforts started paying-off in the recent years when the IT sector has marked a 12 percent
