Bahrain’s General Directorate of Traffic (GDT), Shaikh Abdulraham bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa, announced on Thursday at Gateway Gulf Investor Forum 2018, that Bahrain is planning on developing it vehicle registration system by using the blockchain technology.
Shaikh Abdulrahman, the Director General of GDT said in a statement: “This registry will be a vital advancement in reducing the overall cost of maintaining critical vehicle information, offer greater efficiency in terms of supply chain management, and ensure a high level of transparency for all stakeholders in the vehicle registration ecosystem.”
The plan announced by GDT is in line with Bahrain’s government vision of using advanced technologies and partnering with the private sector.
Last year, Bahrain’s government was already in discussions with the Monetary Authority o Singapore, where it sought advice to deploy a national blockchain pilot.
CEO of Bahrain Economic Development Board, Khalid Al Rumaihi also commented on the importance of utilizing blockchain in Bahrain saying: “The ability for blockchain to be adopted at the country level is a huge opportunity for Bahrain to move into the spotlight as a pioneer in this space,”
GDT is currently looking for a technical partner to work on the system’s design and implementation.
