Bahrain Based Eco Start Up Competes on the International Stage

A Bahrain based start-up, offering a combination of environmental and fintech solutions has gone through to the final rounds of a United Nations (UN) competition.

The competition aims to raise awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and offers youngsters the opportunity to showcase their ideas and solutions for achieving the SDG’s.  The SDG are a set of 17 goals agreed upon by 193 member of UN states, including Bahrain, as priorities for the world to tackle by 2030.

The winning team of three from the Bahrain leg of the competition were announced as team Paperless, consisting of Hamad Ameer, Samy Massoud and Helen Kaldre. They beat 7 teams to get through to the next round, where they will be competing with teams from over eight other global regions. If the team win this round they will be representing the Kingdom of Bahrain at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

The app, called “Paperless”, is an innovative technical solution, which eradicates paper receipts in retail stores. Alternatively it uses an app on customer smart phones for receiving receipts.

Speaking about the app, Co-Founder Helen Kaldre said “We are thrilled at getting through to the next stage and representing Bahrain in the #Connect2effect competition. Our app has multiple benefits, including tackling waste management, impacting the environment positively and providing smart financials insights for retailers. It is a win-win for everyone.”

Co-Founder Samy Massoud discussed the next steps, “One of the criteria to win the next stage is to gain as much publicity and support from our home countries and this needs to be done through social media platforms.  We encourage everyone to follow us online and share with their friends and family.  We believe that our paperless receipt solution shows that we here in Bahrain are innovative, environmentally friendly and focused on the future of the Kingdom.”
