Press Release.
OneOrder, an Egypt-based logistics startup and restaurant supply chain solutions provider, has raised $1 million from its launch. A15, the leading MENA venture capital firm, led the initial investment.
OneOrder is Egypt’s first logistics startup tackling the significant inefficiency in the sourcing of supplies faced by Egypt’s restaurants. Tamer Amer, the founder of Fuego Sushi and Longhorn Texas BBQ, two of Egypt’s most successful restaurant franchises, launched it.
In 2021, the food and beverage industry made a significant return. The industry observed a 204% YoY increase in funding to cross the $600 million mark across Emerging Venture Markets, courtesy of Kitopi‘s $415 million Mega Round. Cloud kitchen Tech platforms such as UAE-based GrubTech, iKcon, which exited late last year, as well as Kitch also garnered significant funds.
In the last year alone, the Transport & Logistics industry has shown outstanding financial growth, amounting 14% of all capital investment in MENA.Significant investments in Egypt’s Halan and Swvl, the UAE’s iMile, and Lyve Global, as well as other leading Q-commerce, Freight Management, and Asset-Light Courier solutions in the MENA region, contributed to this. Thus, it puts OneOrder in a strong competitive position, since it navigates both industries in a savvy B2B tech offering.
OneOrder is building a platform to address major structural issue that Egyptian restaurants face: dealing with a slew of small, fragmented suppliers and vendors for their meat, produce, and equipment on a regular basis. The logistics startup has set out to address the most common pain points in the Egyptian supply chain, such as inconsistent and opaque pricing, unreliable quality, which is passed on to restaurant customers, and irregular delivery timing, with supplies frequently arriving late, limiting restaurants’ daily menu offerings.
The platform enables Egyptian restaurants to purchase all of their needs from a single application, ensuring consistent quality, pricing, and delivery. OneOrder’s founder and CEO, Tamer Amer, emphasized: “We are delighted to announce our launch and fundraise, and I thank A15 for their outstanding support. Given Egypt’s flourishing restaurant industry and the challenges it faces caused by a fragmented supply chain, OneOrder offers a much-needed technology-enabled solution at the perfect time.
My experience in the food and beverage industry means I know what restaurant owners need; it is a reliable, timely supply of quality goods, at a consistent price – without the stress of managing various suppliers on a daily basis.”
Along with Mr. Amer, OneOrder’s executive team has a strong track record in the F&B industry. Karim Maurice performs as a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Maurice developed Cube, Egypt’s counterpart of OpenTable, the global online restaurant reservation service, as well as Bitroot, an early-stage venture “CTO-as-a-Service.” Moataz Abdelrahman, who is now the Coca-Cola General Manager for Egypt, Libya, and Sudan, has joined OneOrder’s Board of Directors.
Tamer Amer, the company’s founder and CEO, added: “We believe restaurants should be focussed on delivering a high-quality experience and service to their customers without having to worry about sourcing and procurement. We are the platform to deliver that. I’m very excited about the future as our market opportunity is huge. Egypt and the wider region are booming economically, and the food & beverage sector is only growing larger.”
Similar restaurant supply chain inefficiencies are present in other MENA countries, and OneOrder hopes to expand its services geographically across the region over time, a potential that is now likely to materialize with the support of its recently acquired resources. Karim Beshara, A15’s General Partner, sums it up: “We are excited to partner with Tamer to solve one of the main challenges the Food & Beverages industry faces in the MENA region.
By leveraging Tamer’s extensive experience as a successful restauranteur and A15’s history of building scalable technology platforms, we will aim to provide restaurants in the region with reliable, convenient and timely supplies that are consistently priced.”
