As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) organized an awareness seminar for staff on cancer prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Day against Breast Cancer in October under the theme “Think Pink!”.
Dr. Sara Al Reefy, a Consultant General Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon from the London Breast Care Centre Bahrain (LBCC), highlighted the importance of early breast cancer detection, along with introducing the symptoms and the next steps if diagnosed.
According to recent statistics published by WHO, there are 1.38 million new cases of breast cancer and 458k deaths caused by the disease annually. The organization estimates that breast cancer is by far the most common type of cancer among women in both developed and developing countries.
