UAE startup disrupts the home cleaning industry in the GCC, find out who and how

Matic, one of the youngest online marketplaces for cleaning services in the GCC, has raised US$ 3 million in funding in a Series A investment round led by the Middle East Venture Partners (MEVP). The company will be using the fresh capital injection to expand its operations across the GCC region and to increase its product portfolio.

Incubated by the Badir Program for Technology Incubators and Accelerators in 2016, the starting company has the ambition to disrupt the home cleaning sector in the Arab world. It uses innovative and intuitive technology to connect people in need for cleaning services with the respective companies. Apart from that, it also features numerous payment methods, allows you to easily schedule your preferred timings, in addition to reporting on the service quality to help maintain the highest standards across the platform.

The cloud-based platform is free for the service suppliers. Furthermore, it equips them with a driver route optimization, client/staff management tools as well as accounting and reporting ones.

CEO and co-founder of Matic, Mohamed Samad said: “The home services space is messy and complex. Striking a balance between automation, technology and the human touch is valuable. Our goal is
to use technology to empower the individuals providing home cleaning services.”

Cleaners, drivers, and dispatchers on the Matic platform are connected to a cloud-based solution, which provides customers a great service end-to-end; from immediate booking confirmation, to forward scheduling, and cleaner reviews. The free cloud-based platform also substantially enhances the productivity of cleaning companies, with features such as driver route optimisation, scheduling, client and staff management, accounting, and reporting to ensure the safety, security, and productivity of cleaning professionals.

Since its inception, Matic has had over 500,000 bookings,  which is equivalent to more than two million hours of cleaning. Nearly 2,000 domestic help professionals joined Matic to advance their careers. Currently, it operates in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. By the end of the year, Matic will also be active in five more cities across Saudi Arabia besides Riyadh. As Rashed AlRashed, the co-founder of Matic noted, the home cleaning service is still a niche market in the Kingdom, and it is mainly Matic that’s paving the way.

Nawaf Al Sahhaf, the CEO of Badir Program for Technology Incubators highlighted the hard work the startup has been doing during its first year of its launch. He pointed out that the MEVP’s investment would be just first of many the company would get in the future.

Walid Mansour, who serves as a Managing Partner at MEVP, commented his fund was excited to contribute to the solution of the home-cleaning services problem in the GCC.
