The closing ceremony of the second edition of the Omani program ”Kid’s Innovation Theatre” took place at the Middle East College. It was under the patronage of Dr. Yaqoob el Durr al Balushi, Deputy CEO for infrastructure and e-services at the ITA. The young participants showcased the newly-acquired technological skills and presented their inventions in front of the public.
Forty kids aged 11 to 14 took part in the initiative. Each day during the month day they attended classes in different IT fields – digital media, application development, innovation, and hardware. The children also learned about project planning and development. The program also included soft skills training.
Ibrahim Muhanna, 11, a real robotics enthusiast commented:
One of the best things I learned was the robotics. I learned so many things, like how many batteries you need to shoot a rocket.
Tasneem Muhammed al Balushi, another fellow, reported how happy he was to open up a CPU under the supervision and check what was inside.
The worldwide leader in IT and networking, Cisco, organized a two-day visit to their headquarters for the kids. Many prominent companies sponsored the event including Microsoft Oman, Oman Sail, Sultan Qaboos University, SME development fund, and more.
