The Bahrain Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) held a meeting with Internet service providers and telecom operators to discuss plans and key issues with regards to the deployment of IPv6 – Internet Protocol Version 6.
The meeting which was organized by the RIPE NCC (Réseaux IP European – Network Coordination Center) and TRA Bahrain, discusses the need for a plan or a roadmap to Bahrain’s deployment strategy of IPv6 such that it helps with the growth of the Internet in the Kingdom. Some of the key issues identified were interconnectivity and the possibility of implementing IPv6 locally amongst operators in order to keep traffic within the country.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Isa bin Daij Al-Khalifa, manager ICT of TRA Bahrain said:“This initiative is integrated into Bahrain’s development agenda to advance the national telecommunications infrastructure on par with regional and global standards.”
